Evelyn's earliest watercolours were painted in Georgian Bay while sitting on the back of their family boat. For many years Evelyn soent one week each summer painting outdoors at the Blue Mountain School of Landscape Painting.

Plein air painting allowed her to be close to nature and paint the natural landscape.
